Soapstone does not stain, although it will naturally darken in time and with use. Soapstone is non-porous, and does not need to be sealed. It can be treated with mineral oil to achieve a dark, even appearance. Keep in mind that Soapstone’s downside is its softness, which makes it susceptible to scratches and nicks, although these can be buffed out with sandpaper.
